Who is Vadel? ” He’s young, gorgeous, bursting at the seams with talent, French, played with the biggest and everyone young and not so young loves him! ” says one of his many French fans in LA!
Born Adam Vadel, he is a French 20-year-old songwriter, singer, musician and producer born in August 1993, a cross between Marc Bolan and Michael Hutchence. At the age of 6, he studies music at the Erik Satie Academy of Paris and then becomes passionate with funk, soul and rock listening to the records of James Brown, Prince, Sly & the Family Stone, David Bowie, Michael Jackson and Santana. At 9, he performs on stage for the first time as a pianist with Tyrone Downie (The Wailers) in a latin club in Paris. Influenced by John Bonham and Keith Moon, this budding young artist practices his drumming intensively fascinated by heavy rock bands such as: Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, AC/DC, Aerosmith and Guns N’ Roses.
In high school, Vadel learns to play guitar on his own and forms his first band. He is the lead singer and guitarist, writes his own material and develops his musicianship by playing along to the riffs of Jimmy Page, Nile Rodgers, John Frusciante, Eddie Hazel and Slash. He also participates weekly to jam sessions in the biggest jazz clubs of Paris and is soon known as one of the best guitarists in the capital in spite of his young age.
At age 13, he is a guest on national television, on the Late Show called « Le Grand Journal» to present his first solo album released digitally. Later on, at one of his shows at the Gibus Club he meets the president of Universal Music France, Pascal Nègre, who signs him on the record label Polydor. Vadel starts a year of touring and performs with his band all over Europe as an opening act for Joe Cocker, Iggy Pop, P!NK and INXS.
At 17, he represents France at the White Nights Festival of St. Petersburg and wins the First People’s Choice Award allowing him to perform as a supporting act with The Doors +Ian Astbury, Woody Allen and Thin Lizzy. When he gets back from Russia, Vadel graduates and decides to dedicate himself fully to music.
This past summer, the band performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and opened for Santana’s European tour. (clcik on link to watch video!) In New York, Vadel works with producer Nick Sansano (Sonic Youth, Public Enemy, Run DMC). Vadel is signed to EMI‘s label Play-On, which released the band’s first single, “Drama Queen.” Weeks after the release date, “Drama Queen” earned #1 ranking in the French airplay chart. The folk-rock single’s chart success helped drive popularity for the band’s eponymous debut album released in 2012. Since then, “Drama Queen” has gone on to also chart in Switzerland, Belgium, and Quebec. Vadel is currently composing the music for a French and Canadian production, a rock opera called: A Tale of the Future. He writes most of his songs in English.
