Brigitte Bardot aka BB epitomizes the natural beauty of the French woman. It is a beauty that cannot be bottled, manufactured, created with contouring, highlight and blush ;), but rather it is beauty “au naturel”. It is a beauty that comes from within and that radiates in the eyes, in the attitude and in the overall simplicity.

Such simple, natural beauty is not for the very few, it is achievable by all women because each woman has something beautiful about her. But I am not talking about the fake beauty achieved with makeup or shall I say war paint that turns women into something they are not. Every woman has something beautiful about her it could be the twinkle in her eye, the way her lips turn up, the color of her skin, the way she laughs, even perfume can make a woman beautiful etc… French beauty is not about makeup. We are all familiar with the iconic classic French beauty look with the infallible red rouge à lèvre and simple Khol cat eye. Make up is used to emphasize features and enhance not camouflage and alter. Also the products used are very high quality and a little goes a long way.

French women know themselves and know their strengths and weaknesses and most of all they know how to empathize their best features, physical attributes, and also their personality without too much artifice. French women know how to put their best foot forward with confidence, they take good care of themselves and it shows. Eating good food, good wine and water, walking, exercising and getting good sleep all contribute to wellbeing and beauty becomes a positive energy.

For me Brigitte Bardot is my idea of a a beautiful French woman and so are in their own style Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Adjani, Juliette Binoche and others.

In the end beauty is embracing and working with what we’ve got and being true to ourselves.

“I gave my beauty and my youth to men. I am going to give my wisdom and my experience to animals.” Brigitte Bardot
