French American Lunch at Chez Fabien Bistro in Historic Grapevine, Texas

For starters, we had an aperitif sitting on the sidewalk terrace of Chez Fabien Bistro on a drizzly afternoon to celebrate our birthdays. I sipped on my Cranberry Mimosa while Johan had a cocktail as we enjoyed this well-deserved mid-day break.

We shared the “Escargots en Croute” hors d’oeuvre served in puff pastry with an herb-garlic butter sauce, which we soaked up with crusty, grilled baguette slices.

We ordered burgers and fries, and I call it the French-American birthday lunch because, as it turned out, I ordered “The Frenchie Burger” and Johan ordered “The All-American Burger.” I loved the taste of the melted brie, crispy shallots, mushroom duxelles, and Dijonnaise sauce, and the presentation was very “bistro”-style, served on a French newspaper!

The “All-American Burger” featured Applewood smoked bacon, cheddar, LTO, and a secret burger sauce. The fries were real “French fries,” thin and crispy, just the way we like them with burgers.

And for dessert, of course, we couldn’t resist checking out the Main Street Bakery, which is part of Chez Fabien Bistro, and we took home some mini pastries to share.

Voilà ! The end of a perfect afternoon in Grapevine, Texas, reminiscent of a Parisian sidewalk… with a little imagination!
