Bastille Day as we say in the U.S aka Le 14 Juillet is France’s National Holiday commemorating the Prise de la Bastille and the start of the French Revolution. The French culture is alive and well in the U.S and there are festivities and celebrations all over America organized by the French Consulates and Embassies in conjunction with the Alliances Francaises. Here in North Texas, we’ve found a few noteworthy things to do to celebrate Bastille Day in Dallas and around your town:
Bastille Day Events Around Town:
Oak Cliff’s Bastille on Bishop, the Bishop Art District’s annual festival on Wednesday July 13 from 6 to 11 PM features French inspired activities and even Pétanque! Entry is free but for $25 you receive a souvenir glass and drinks. More info here. This location has a great story and unique French roots, it is a celebration of the community’s ties to the early French “La Reunion” settlement. In 1855, when Dallas was only 14 years old, a group of 200 mostly French settlers led by Victor Considerant made their way from Houston by ox cart to setup a “Utopian Community” based on the socialist ideas of Charles Fourier in what is now North Oak Cliff. The community brought Dallas its first piano and beer brewery!
Legacy Hall European-style food hall in Plano, 3rd annual Bastille Day on Sunday, July 11 from 1 pm to 4 pm, live music in the Box Garden outdoor entertainment venue, crêpes, and Croque Monsieurs at Whisk & Eggs and raclette!
