No sooner had audiences finished savoring the last episode of Lupin Part 2 after a 6 month wait that an announcement flashed on the screen as we wondered “is this it?” “Assane is always one step ahead. Lupin will return for Part 3“. This was confirmed on Twitter by a French journalist and the actor himself playing Lupin. Will we have to wait another 6 months? There’s talk of the release date end of 2021 or even early 2022. It should or shall we say better be worth the wait?

So, let’s recap the first 5 episodes in Lupin Part 1 introduces the story and the character Arsene Lupin aka Assane Diop played by Omar Sy on a quest for revenge for the murder of his father for a crime he didn’t commit. His father was accused of stealing Marie-Antoinette’s diamond necklace owned by the Pellegrini family, Hubert Pellegrini (Hervé Pierre). We meet Diop’s ex-wife Claire (Ludivine Sagnier) and his son Raoul (Etan Simon). The last episode is optimistic, will the family get back together until suddenly his son gets kidnapped on the beach at the annual Lupin Convention.
The first mission in Lupin Part 2 is to find his kidnapped son in a very emotional roller coaster ride, Diop will get some help from unsuspecting sources including Detective Youssef Guedira (Soufiane Guerrab) and Lieutenant Sofia Belkacem (Shirine Boutella). Through the many flashbacks we are drawn deeper in the story with the past intertwining with the present as we are lead one way only to discover that there is always an element of surprise in the plot. Will Diop clear his good name or will he drag everyone down along with him, including his childhood best friend and partner in crime Benjamin Ferel (Antoine Gouy) ? Will he rekindle the flame with Juliette the Pellegrini daughter (Clotilde Hesme)? It all comes crashing down with the capture of the real criminal who orchestrated it all. The end, unfortunately or fortunately for the viewers, it is not over yet and Diop is once again on the run.
George Kay the co-creator of the series assures us that ” Part 3 will be an entirely different storyline than the first 2 parts.” Will Diop redeem himself and be reunited with his family Claire and Raoul? Lupin could go on and on as the more debonair version of the English Sherlock Holmes, Lupin, created in 1905 by Maurice Leblanc, is the gentleman thief with class, manners and a good heart and an aversion to hypocrisy and injustice seeking to be more like Robin Hood to steal from the rich and give back to the poor. The trailer for Part 3 trailer is not out yet so we’ll leave you with The Multiple Faces of Assane Diop in Lupin.
