Ceci n’est pas… French Art and Culture in the Los Angeles Art Scene!
Ceci n’est pas… Art Between France and Los Angeles is finally here! A much talked about and long awaited project initiated by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States in association with the Institut Français, with the support of the Alliance Française of Los Angeles, and the participation of many other local institutions. It is an unprecedented and diverse five-months series of Franco-American contemporary art collaborations starting December 2012 through April 2013.
How did this project come about? Ceci n’est pas… was inspired by The Centre Pompidou who pioneered the exhibition “Los Angeles, 1955-1985, Birth of an Artistic Capital” in 2006. Building on this large exhibition, through the existing references to French art and culture in the Los Angeles art scene, it became pertinent to highlight the ties between France and the City of Angels, which has since become a true cultural capital of the world!
Ceci n’est pas… opens on December 1, 2012 with its first exposition LOST IN LA, organized by the FLAX Foundation (French Los Angeles eXchange) and Le Palais de Tokyo. It will bring together about 60 exceptional works by established and emerging artists from France and Los Angeles in a groundbreaking new exhibition project curated by Marc-Olivier Wahler.
The project is presented free to the public from December 1, 2012 through January 27, 2013, at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Art Park 4800 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90027.
